Airbrushed Finish without the Airbrush!

Alright so my best friend inspired me to write down my tips, tricks, and product review. It bothers me when I ask other make up artists for tips on certain things that I would like to improve on and they are not willing to share, So here is my first blog to share with you! Hope you enjoy it.

Recently I fell in love with two products and their technique. The Beauty Blender® and MAC 109 Small Contour Brush. Both give a professional flawless airbrushed look and I like having options.

I actually bought this a few years ago at the make up artist trade show in Pasadena when it first came out and it is now being sold on many cosmetic websites.

"The Beauty Blender® was created without edges in order to eliminate visible lines and streaks. Its unique curves fit the contours of your face, leaving you with a professional finish and a flawless application. Beautyblender® is unlike any traditional sponge, being latex free, it won't absorb your make up, meaning your makeup lasts and lasts. beautyblender® can be used wet or dry and is perfect for applying concealer, foundation, powder, mineral based makeup, bronzer, eyeshadow and cream blush."

The reason why I love it so much is that no matter what foundation/ brush I was using to apply the foundation I could still see streaks. I then switched to the MAC 187 Duo Fibre Brush or used it in conjunction with the MAC 190 Foundation Brush but it sheered the foundation a bit too much for me especially on the nose. The Beauty blender can be used by itself for that same coverage.

This is how I prefer to use it, or what has worked best for me; (fuller coverage)
When applying liquid foundation, I usually apply it first with the foundation brush in smaller areas then use a dampened Beauty Blender in a stippling motion to blend it out. Use the rounded side for larger areas of the face and pointed side for under eyes and harder to reach places. Add some foundation on the pointed end, apply and stipple to the nose and any blemishes for full coverage.

MAC 109 Small Contour Brush; It was made to be used on the face to apply, blend or contour powder products. Softly rounded dome tip delivers just enough color; smoothly blends color into the face. Of natural fibers.

What I love to use this brush for foundation!!! I like to use this brush in conjunction with the MAC 190 foundation brush as well. If your skin or your models skin is pretty clear and just needs that airbrushed finished use this technique. Apply liquid foundation with the foundation brush in small areas or half of your face at a time, then go over it buffing in circles with the MAC 109 brush before moving on to the other side. Easy Peasy ;)

Tip & Tricks;

A fellow make up artist Sal brought this to my attention, and the very next day I tried it out and loved it. He resurrected an old trick to set powder foundation making it look like it was a liquid and staying on longer.

He takes a sturdy paper towel and soaks it in ice cold water, rings it out and uses a press and roll method to set everything in. It does not remove any color off of the face.

The reason why I love it; for those who have super sensitive skin and use mineral make up like me on an every day basis it is a great way to soothe itchy sensitive skin and set this dry powder!
I also tried it after I set a liquid foundation with light powder on a powder brush and it worked great. In standard make up classes we are taught to set with a velour puff and powder in a press and roll motion. I like this better it gives a more natural finish rather than a heavy caked on finish.

Hope you enjoyed and learned something new
